Theological Digest & Outlook
Selections from the September 2009 issue
NOTE: THE OPINIONS EXPRESSED IN THE SIGNED ARTICLES ARE THOSE OF
THE AUTHORS AND DO NOT NECESSARILY REFLECT ENDORSEMENT BY CHURCH
ALIVE. In this Issue
The four renewal groups within the United Church
of Canada sponsored a student essay contest. Students at all United
Church colleges were invited to submit a paper on either the
doctrine of the Trinity or some aspect of Christology (the doctrine
of Christ.) Prize money was contributed by the renewal groups and a
generous donation from an individual.
The two essays published
here were chosen to share a first prize of $750. The third place
winner will be published in the March issue of Theological Digest &
Outlook.
Daniel Hayward was a
fourth year student at Queen’s Theological College in Kingston. A
candidate from Orleans United Church, he was recently ordained by
Montreal & Ottawa Conference and has been settled at the
Ingleside-Newington Pastoral Charge in Seaway Valley Presbytery.
Aaron Miller is entering
his last year at Emmanuel College in Toronto. He is a candidate from
First Grantham United Church in St. Catharines and expects to be
ordained in 2010. He is serving as student supply at the Selkirk
Pastoral Charge in Erie Presbytery.
We hope to offer the
contest in 2010 as a way of encouraging and rewarding theological
thinking among students and future ministers.
